In 2025, around the world, 4,849 Christians — more than 13 a day on average — were killed for “faith-related reasons.” Another 4,712 were detained without trial, and 3,632 churches and Christian properties were attacked, torched, or merely shut down.

Overall, the global persecution of Christians has once again reached record levels. “More than 388 million Christians suffer high levels of persecution and discrimination for their faith,” according to the World Watch List 2026 (WWL), published by the international watchdog Open Doors.

Every year, the WWL ranks the top 50 nations where Christians are most persecuted. The data is compiled from field experts, grassroots workers, and independent analysts across more than 100 countries.

According to the latest report, one in seven Christians worldwide is persecuted. In Africa, that rises to one in five; in Asia, an astonishing two in five.
